The UK Border Agency Making Jokes Simply Isn't Funny!
On March 1st 2009, the UK Border Agency website ran a story with the following headline:
"Now you see him, now you don't - visa-less magician is removed from the UK"
Warner Pride fully support the need for humour when the humour is appropriate. When humour is used at someone’s expense we cannot see the funny side at all, especially when it comes to denying someone access to the UK. It is also possible that denying entry to the UK could cause the overseas national problems in the future, which of course is not a problem caused by the UKBA, but rather by the overseas national, but making jokes is rude and demonstrates zero respect by the person who penned the article.
Not only is the headline tactless we also believe using the term "magic wand" in the content of the UKBA's press release was seen by the 'Spokesman' as funny, or even clever. Well, it is neither funny nor clever and we believe the gentleman attempting to enter the UK should receive an apology from the UK Border Agency.

01 March 2009
UK Border Agency officers at Liverpool's John Lennon airport were far from spellbound when a Turkish man tried to get past United Kingdom border control without a visa, claiming to be on his way to the Intercontinental Stage Magic Championships in Blackpool.
The 35-year-old Turkish man arrived on an evening flight from Gerona, Spain on 18 February, with a number of luggage items including a large magician's box stage prop.
However, inspection of the man's passport revealed that he did not hold a valid visa to come to the United Kingdom.
A UK Border Agency spokesman said:
"Visitors to the UK must play by the rules. If they need a visa to come here and they haven't got one, there's no magic wand they can wave to get in. They will just be sent back.
"Nationals of over 100 countries - three-quarters of the world's population - must apply for a six-month visitor visa if they want to come to the UK. Our visa checks now require everyone to be fingerprinted, locking them to one identity, and checked against government watch-lists. They are then screened and counted in and out of the UK using the UK Border Agency's e-Borders system."
The man was denied entry and removed from the United Kingdom.
End.

Can someone at the UK Border Agency who has never made a mistake please make themselves known to us and the rest of the world, because we'd like to see them walk on water and turn water in to wine.
