Visitor in Transit
A person who seeks leave to enter the UK for a few days in order, for example, to visit friends or relatives before continuing his journey falls to be considered as a visitor.
Immigration officers may examine any persons who have arrived in the UK including transit passengers. In practice, however, the immigration officer should normally waive his powers to examine persons in “Direct Airside Transit” unless there are grounds for its use (e.g. a captain refuses to embark a passenger for any reason).
